Ripples: Transformations Beyond Science

Dates of Implementation/Duration:  October 2021 to November 2021

Partner Institution: Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute

Objectives:

The project aims to document and derive insights on the factors relative to the various programs of DOST-SEI that contributed to the success of individuals who were recipients of the scholarships, participants to teacher trainings, and promotions projects for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among the youth.

Specifically, it aimed to accomplish the following:

  • To describe the impact of SEI’s STEM Promotion projects, teacher trainings, and scholarships programs to its beneficiaries among selected students and teachers who participated in these activities;
  • To capture how their success (or failure/digression from science career) and aspirations as STEM students/professionals have contributed/would most likely contribute to the development of their respective communities, as well as the sector they are working for, and;
  • To recommend ways to improve the design and implementation of the various programs and projects of the Institute relative to the experiences of the beneficiaries.

Project Description:

The main project titled “Most Significant Change Stories of Beneficiaries of the DOST-SEI Programs and Projects: A Qualitative Evaluation Study” documented the factors relative to the various programs of DOST-SEI that buttressed the success of individuals who were recipients of the scholarships, participants to teacher training, and promotions projects for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among the youth. This collaborative project employed qualitative research methods to generate in-depth information and evidence on the selected science-trained individuals relative to the major projects and programs of the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI).

An abridged version of the study was released in the form of a coffee table book on November 26, 2021. The coffee table book aims to create a material that captures and effectively communicates the most significant change stories of DOST-SEI’s program beneficiaries.
