11th Asia Pacific Sociological Association Conference

Partner Institution: Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), in cooperation with the AdMU Institute of Philippine Culture, Philippine Sociological Society, and the Philippine Social Science Council

Objectives: 

  1. provide an opportunity for academics and professionals with a broadly sociological background and/or related fields of study to share and exchange ideas concerning theory and methods, and application; 
  2. develop collaboration and cooperation among research institutions and academics, policymakers and professionals to contribute to the improvement of communities in the region; and 
  3. engage early-career sociologists/social scientists in the Asia Pacific region to participate and contribute to the development and application of sociology as a discipline and as an orientation

Project Description:

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology of the Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), in cooperation with the AdMU Institute of Philippine Culture, Philippine Sociological Society, and the Philippine Social Science Council, hosted the 11th Asia Pacific Sociological Association Conference on 22-24 October 2012. The conference, which has the theme “Sociology and Social Transformations: Opportunities and Challenges for the Asia Pacific,” aimed to provide an opportunity for academics and professionals with a broadly sociological background and/or related fields of study to share and exchange ideas concerning theory and methods, and application; develop collaboration and cooperation among research institutions and academics, policymakers and professionals to contribute to the improvement of communities in the region; and engage early-career sociologists/social scientists in the Asia Pacific region to participate and contribute to the development and application of sociology as a discipline and as an orientation. Conference gathered around 150 scholars, practitioners, and students of sociology from the Philippines and the Asia-Pacific region.
